Privacy Policy
Summary
- There is no account and no ads. The App has no analytics or tracking tools of its own, and we never sell personal data.
- Speech, captions and text recognition run on your device. Your texts, books, audio, images and videos are never uploaded to us.
- The App downloads its AI voices and caption models from Hugging Face, and on Android the text-recognition language files from GitHub, the first time you need them, and asks the app stores about updates.
- When you import a web article, the App fetches it from the website you choose.
- Google Play and the Apple App Store handle purchases. We never see your payment details. On Android, Google Play's billing library in the App sends Google technical diagnostics.
- If you email us, we use your message only to reply to you.
1. Who we are
TTAudio (the "App") is developed by Chamela Aluthgedara ("we", "us", "our"), based in Sri Lanka, and published on Google Play and, when available, on the Apple App Store. We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy and act as its data controller.
This policy applies to TTAudio 2.1 and later. Earlier versions (1.x) showed ads and used third-party analytics and crash-reporting services under a previous policy. If you still use one of them, please update the App.
Contact: apps.support@ailivex.com.
2. Scope
This policy covers the App and this web page. Services run by others, such as Google Play, the App Store, Google, Apple, Hugging Face, GitHub, your device's text-to-speech engine, the websites you import from and your email provider, have their own privacy policies, which we link to below.
This web page is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard connection data, such as your IP address and browser details, to deliver the page and protect the site. The page itself sets no cookies and loads no analytics or tracking scripts.
3. Information that stays on your device
The App works on your device. The following is processed and stored only on your device. It is not sent to us or to anyone else:
- text you type or paste, and the documents, books, web articles, images and audio or video files you import or select;
- the audio, audiobooks, captions, transcripts, translations, videos and projects you create, and your drafts, pronunciation rules, bookmarks and listening positions;
- what you enter when you set up the App: your first name (optional), what you mainly want to use the App for and your daily listening goal, together with your listening statistics. The App uses your name only to greet you and your goal only for your listening streak;
- your settings, and your Pro subscription status, which is kept in the system's secure storage (Android Keystore or iOS Keychain).
The App's AI voices, speech recognition and caption translation, text recognition (OCR) and its audio and video rendering run on your device. On Android, text recognition runs on the device with an open-source recognition engine built into the App and a language file it downloads once per language (see section 5); on iOS, it uses the text recognition built into iOS, on the device.
Voices for other languages come from your device's text-to-speech engine, which is a separate app (for example Google's or Samsung's on Android, or Apple's on iOS) under its provider's own terms and privacy policy. The App only offers the voices that the engine reports as installed and usable without an internet connection.
This information stays in the App's private storage until you delete it, clear the App's data or uninstall the App. On Android, the App excludes its data from cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer. On iOS, your library (the projects, book texts and covers, the Studio draft, and the audio, captions and videos you create), your settings and your setup answers may be included in your iCloud or computer backups, depending on your device settings; downloaded models, the audio of audiobooks (which the App can create again from the text) and temporary work files are excluded. Those backups belong to you, under your Apple Account, and we cannot access them. On iOS, the App's TTAudio folder (your audio, captions, videos and saved audiobooks) is also visible in the Files app.
Files you save outside the App (for example to Music, Movies or the Files app) or share with other apps are under your control. While audio plays, its title appears in your device's media controls and notifications, for example on the lock screen.
4. Information we collect
The only personal data we receive is what you send us when you contact us, for example through Settings › Contact support or the "Report a problem" item in the menu of something the App made. Both open your email app.
- What we receive: your email address, your name if your email shows it, and the content of your message, including any attachments. A problem report is pre-filled with the type of item, the App version and the App's interface language; nothing from the item itself (its title, text, audio, captions or files) is added unless you add it.
- What we use it for: replying to you, solving the problem you report, reviewing reports about content the App generated, and improving the App.
- How long we keep it: up to 24 months after the conversation ends. We keep it longer only if the law requires it, and we delete it sooner if you ask.
We do not collect anything else. The App has no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools of our own. It does not use advertising identifiers, and it does not access your location, your contacts or your microphone. On Android, Google Play's billing library sends Google its own technical diagnostics, which we do not receive (see section 5).
5. Information handled by third parties
Voice, caption and text-recognition downloads. The AI voices and the caption (speech-recognition) models are downloaded when you choose to download them or first use a feature that needs them. They come from Hugging Face, or from a copy of the same files on GitHub. On Android, the language file for text recognition (about 0.5 to 4.5 MB per language) is downloaded from GitHub when scanning first needs it (with Auto-detect, also a language the App tries because it is your app or phone language); your images and the recognised text stay on your device. Like any web request, the service delivering a file receives standard connection data: your IP address, the requested file, the time, and basic technical details such as the App's name and version. We do not receive this data. See the Hugging Face Privacy Policy and the GitHub Privacy Statement. The App checks every downloaded file against a fixed fingerprint before use.
Web article import. When you import a web article, or a series of chapters from a website, the App downloads those pages directly from the website you enter and the pages it links to as the next chapters. That website receives standard connection data, including your IP address, the pages requested and a browser identification that names TTAudio. Its own terms and privacy policy apply. We do not receive the addresses or the pages.
Update checks. The App checks automatically, when it starts and from time to time, whether a newer version is available:
- on Android, through Google Play's in-app updates: the Play Store receives details such as your device and the installed App version, under Google's terms;
- on iOS, through Apple's public App Store lookup service: the request contains the App's identifier and the region set on your device, and Apple receives your IP address;
- if we publish an update notice for the App, the App also downloads it from our website, ailivex.com. The request contains no personal data. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, receives standard connection data to deliver it, and we do not use that data to identify you.
Google Play and the Apple App Store. The stores handle downloads, payments, subscriptions, rating prompts and update checks. They process your account and payment information as independent controllers, under Google's and Apple's privacy policies. The App receives purchase confirmations from the store, such as the product, a purchase token or transaction ID, and the subscription's renewal or expiry status. It checks them on your device to unlock Pro and keeps only the product, the expiry date, the renewal status and the time of the last check. These confirmations are not sent to us.
Google Play's billing library (Android only). To sell Pro on Android, the App includes Google Play's billing library. For diagnostics, it sends Google technical information about the App's use of Google Play's billing, together with device details: the device manufacturer, model and hardware, the Android version and build, the device's language, country and time zone, the mobile network code and network type, and the App's version. It contains no advertising identifier and none of your texts or files. Google receives it under its own terms and Privacy Policy; we do not receive it. The iOS version uses Apple's in-app purchase system, which is part of iOS.
App Lock. If you turn on App Lock, your device's operating system checks your fingerprint, face or passcode. The App only learns whether the check succeeded and never receives your biometric data.
Links and sharing. When you open a link, send an email, rate the App or use the system share sheet, the app or website you choose takes over. Its own policy applies from that point.
6. How we use information and our legal bases
- Providing the App and the Pro features you buy: performance of our contract with you.
- Answering your messages and reviewing problem reports: our legitimate interest in helping you and keeping the App safe, or taking steps you ask for.
- Keeping the App and purchases secure, for example by checking purchases and app integrity on your device: our legitimate interest in preventing fraud and misuse.
- Selling Pro through Google Play on Android, including the diagnostics Google Play's billing library sends Google: our legitimate interest in offering reliable purchases. Google processes that information under its own terms.
- Meeting legal obligations: compliance with law.
- Camera, photo, notification and Face ID access: only with the permission you grant in your device settings. You can withdraw it at any time.
7. Permissions
- Camera: only when you choose to photograph a printed page or a cover. On Android, your device's camera app takes the photo and hands it to the App.
- Photos, media and files: to open the items you pick with the system picker, so the App only sees what you select, and to save the audio and videos you export when you ask it to (on iOS, add-only access to your photo library; on Android 9 and older, storage access for saving to Music or Movies).
- Notifications: to show progress while long audio, audiobooks, captions or videos are created, and to tell you when they are ready.
- Face ID or fingerprint: only when you turn on App Lock.
- Background work: to keep long creations and audio playback going while you use other apps.
- Internet: for the downloads, web imports, store services and update checks described above.
8. How information is shared
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it for targeted or cross-context behavioural advertising. We disclose the support messages described in section 4 only:
- to the email services that forward and host our mailbox, which process messages on our behalf;
- when required by law, or when needed to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or us;
- as part of a sale or transfer of the App. If that happens, we will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
9. International transfers
Our email services and the third-party services above may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where data protection law requires it, these providers protect transfers with recognised safeguards, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
10. Security
The App connects only over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. It verifies downloaded files before use, and web imports never reach addresses on your local or private network. It checks purchase confirmations on your device and keeps your subscription status in the system's secure storage. Optional App Lock and an app-switcher privacy cover protect what is on screen.
To protect the App and Pro, the App also checks on your device for signs of tampering, such as a modified copy of the App, a debugger or hooking tools, or a rooted or jailbroken device, for example by reading system properties, process information and network-port information. The results stay on your device. They are never sent to us or to anyone else, and they only decide whether Pro features can be used.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect the information we handle.
11. Adults only
The App is intended only for adults aged 18 or over, or the age of majority where they live if that is higher. It is not directed to children or minors, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
12. Your rights and choices
You control the information on your device. You can:
- delete items from the Library;
- use Settings › Delete all my data, which removes your library, drafts, pronunciation rules, statistics, your setup answers and your settings from this device. It keeps your interface language, your App Lock and privacy-cover settings, downloaded voices and models, and technical app data such as update and device checks. It does not affect your subscription, files you saved outside the App or existing backups;
- remove downloaded voices, caption packs and scan languages in Settings › Manage downloads;
- uninstall the App to erase everything in its private storage on your device (files you saved outside the App stay; on iOS, delete the App's data from your backups too if you wish).
For the support messages we hold, you may ask us to access, correct, delete or export your data, to restrict or object to our use of it, or to withdraw consent. Depending on where you live, you have these rights under:
- the EU and UK GDPR;
- California law (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know, delete and correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for using your rights;
- Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022;
- similar laws elsewhere.
Email apps.support@ailivex.com from the address you used to contact us. We will answer within 30 days, or sooner if the law requires. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
We do not receive the billing diagnostics described in section 5, and they are not linked to an account we hold, so we cannot look them up or delete them; for data held by Google, Apple, Hugging Face or GitHub, contact them directly. To cancel a subscription, use your Google Play or App Store account settings.
13. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We do not track you across apps or websites, so there is nothing to change when your browser or device sends these signals.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will publish the new version on this page with a new effective date. Where the law requires, we will also give you additional notice.

Terms of Use
Please read these terms carefully. They include a disclaimer of warranties, a limitation of our liability, and rules for resolving disputes (sections 14 to 17).
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Chamela Aluthgedara ("we", "us", "our") about the TTAudio app (the "App"). By downloading, installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information; please read it too. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to accept these Terms. The App is not intended for minors.
3. App store terms
If you got the App from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply. If you got it from the Apple App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and it takes precedence where it conflicts with these Terms for your use on Apple devices.
Google and Apple are not parties to these Terms. They are not responsible for the App, its content, maintenance, support or any claims about it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms for your use of the App on Apple devices and may enforce them.
4. Licence
Subject to these Terms, we give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for your own lawful purposes. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
5. Intellectual property and open-source components
The App, including its software, design, text, graphics and trademarks, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. The App includes open-source software, models and fonts under their own licences, such as the Apache License 2.0, the MIT License and the SIL Open Font License. Those licences govern those components; see Settings › Open-source licences in the App for each component and its licence.
6. Your content
You keep all rights to the texts, documents, books, web articles, images, audio and videos you use with the App, and to the audio, captions, videos and other output you create with it ("Your Content"), to the extent you hold those rights. Your Content is processed on your device. We do not receive it and claim no rights to it.
You are solely responsible for Your Content: for having every right, licence and consent needed to import, convert, narrate, caption, translate, publish or share it, and for how you use the results. Turning a book, article or recording that belongs to someone else into audio, an audiobook, captions or a video, and sharing or publishing the result, may require the rights holder's permission. Books protected by DRM cannot be imported, and you must not use the App to get around any technical protection.
Keep your own backups. Deleting an item, using "Delete all my data" or uninstalling the App deletes the data it held permanently.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the App to:
- break any law or regulation, or infringe the rights of others, including copyright, trademark, privacy and publicity rights;
- impersonate any person, present synthetic speech as a real person's voice or as a recording of something a real person said, or use AI voices, captions or videos to deceive, defraud, harass or mislead, for example in scams, fake endorsements or false news;
- create or distribute content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative of minors, or intended to mislead or defraud;
- publish AI-generated audio or video without the disclosure that the law or the platform you publish on requires;
- import content from websites in breach of their terms or the law, or overload any website or service;
- copy, modify, decompile, reverse-engineer or redistribute the App, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- get around subscription checks, paid features or security measures, or use modified, repackaged or cracked versions of the App;
- interfere with the App, its downloads or the services it relies on, for example through automated or excessive requests.
8. AI features and their output
The App's voices are synthetic. Speech, pronunciation, captions, transcripts, language detection, translations, text recognition and chapter detection are produced automatically and may contain errors or omissions, including in names, numbers and meaning. They are not professional advice. They are not certified for any legal, medical, safety, broadcast or accessibility-compliance purpose.
You are responsible for reviewing and correcting the output before you rely on it, share it or publish it. If the App produces something offensive or harmful, please report it with "Report a problem" in that item's menu or by email.
9. Pro subscriptions and payments
- Pro is offered as monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscriptions. There is no free trial. The price and billing period are shown in the App and in the store before you buy.
- Google Play or Apple charges your store account when you confirm the purchase, and again at each renewal. Taxes are applied by the store where required. We do not process payments.
- Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in your Google Play or App Store account settings. Uninstalling the App does not cancel a subscription.
- Prices may change. The store will tell you in advance, as its rules require, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
- Refunds are handled by Google Play or Apple under their refund policies, except where the law requires otherwise.
- Pro keeps working offline for up to 7 days after the App last confirmed your subscription with the store; on rooted or jailbroken devices, the store must confirm it again. Pro stays paused on copies of the App that are modified or run with debugging or hooking tools; the free features keep working.
10. Third-party services and downloads
Some features rely on services run by others: voice and caption models downloaded from Hugging Face (or a copy on GitHub), text-recognition language files downloaded from GitHub and Google Play services on Android, your device's text-to-speech engine, the websites you import from, and the app stores. Their own terms apply. We do not control these services and are not responsible for their availability, content or practices.
11. Updates and availability
We may update, change, suspend or discontinue the App or any feature at any time, and some updates may be required to keep using it. We do not guarantee that the App will always be available, error-free, secure, or compatible with every device or operating system.
12. Feedback
If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them freely, without any obligation or payment to you.
13. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your licence if you breach these Terms. When the licence ends, you must stop using the App. Sections 5 to 8 and 14 to 19 survive termination.
14. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE APP AND ALL ITS FEATURES, OUTPUT AND DOWNLOADS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY. THIS INCLUDES ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, NON-INFRINGEMENT AND UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION.
15. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. WE ARE ALSO NOT LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, CONTENT, PROFITS, REVENUE, GOODWILL OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE APP OR THESE TERMS, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATED TO THE APP IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR PRO IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM AND (B) USD 10.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, liability for fraud, and the rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.
16. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from Your Content, your misuse of the App, or your breach of these Terms or of anyone else's rights.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before bringing any claim, please email us so we can try to resolve the issue informally within 30 days.
The courts of Sri Lanka have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about the App or these Terms. If you are a consumer, however, you may also bring claims in the courts where you live, and you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country.
To the extent permitted by law, disputes are resolved individually and not as part of a class or representative action, and any claim must be brought within one year after it arises.
18. Export and sanctions
You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to comprehensive embargoes, and that you are not on any government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to use the App in compliance with all applicable export and sanctions laws.
19. General
- These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any applicable store terms, are the entire agreement between you and us about the App.
- If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
- You may not transfer these Terms. We may transfer them as part of a sale or transfer of the App.
- We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- If these Terms are translated, the English version prevails.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The new version takes effect when it is published on this page with a new effective date. Where the law requires, we will also give you additional notice. We may also ask you to accept the updated Terms in the App. If you keep using the App after the change, you accept the updated Terms.
